Abstract

890,750. Vibratory mechanism. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Feb. 18, 1960 [Feb. 20, 1959], No. 6036/59. Class 80 (4). [Also in Group XXXII] A resonant device for attachment to a vibrating machine for increasing peak accelerations, comprises a piston 2, Fig. 1, which is resiliently mounted in a cylinder 1, either the piston 2 or cylinder 1 being rigidly attached as at 7 to the vibrating part 6. Variation of the resonant frequency is obtained by variation of gas pressure fed to opposite ends of the piston through ports 22, 24. An additional supply port 23 is provided centrally of the piston in the region of an annular recess 12 to reduce the peak pressure drop across the piston seals 15. The piston 2 is resiliently supported by apertured spiders 16 attached by bolts 18 at each end and for which resiliently lined recesses 21 are provided in the cylinder end caps 4.
