The machine for compressing material described and claimed in the parent Specification is improved or modified by the provision of partitions 112, Fig. 5, dividing each die opening into at least two cells, and adjustable walls 124 pivotally mounted on pins held in notches 122 by the partitions. Thus, three partitions 112 with bevelled or sharpened edges 128 and each covering a 120 degree arc, are secured by split pins 106 in the slots 96 at the inlet end of the die cells 74 (see Fig. 7). When the machine is to operate with a single row of die openings only, the partitions 112 and associated adjustable walls 124 are taken out and the slots are filled by wedges 98 Fig. 10, which also are secured by the split pins 106 (see Fig. 9). The die rings 30 and 32 are composed of at least two annular plates, of which the inner plate has wedge-shaped notches 48 to receive the die blocks 36. The inner plates may carry adjustable walls 78 similar to the adjustable walls 124. Pressure applied to the adjustable walls 78 by pistons (not shown) passing through a circle of holes 86, as disclosed in Specification 1,008,208, will be transmitted through the intervening material to the adjustable walls 124.
