Abstract

1,041,299. Forging. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Sept. 25, 1964, No. 39134/64. Heading B3H. [Also in Division B1] A high-pressure apparatus comprises a plurality of anvils 20 movable towards each other in a common plane by wedge driving members 25. Eight radially movable anvil tips 20 made of tungsten carbide are mounted on bodies 21 with oppositely inclined wedge surfaces 23 engaged by wedge segments 25 fitting into a ring 27. End closures 11 are operated by press platens 30 with interposed gaskets 22 of pyrophyllite. Opposed forces 31 are applied to the wedges to compress a cylindrical specimen in the pressure space 19.
