Abstract

1487802 Extrusion ASEA AB 28 Jan 1975 [29 Jan 1974] 3600/75 Heading B3P A hydrostatic extrusion press has a composite die which comprises a preforming portion 10 with a frusto-conical inlet portion 11 and a final-forming portion 12 mounted within a prestressed, force-absorbing support ring 16. The support ring 16 has a shorter axially length than the final forming die portion 12 so as to support it externally only in the forming region. A gap 23 between the final forming portion 12 and the die holder 7 prevents compressive stresses being applied in the clearance portion 15. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the final forming portion (12) is supported axially on a ring (25) spaced by a gap (27) from a support ring (26) for the prestressed support ring (16).
