Abstract
759,976. Extruding; stamping. AMERICAN RADIATOR & STANDARD SANITARY CORPORATION. Aug. 12, 1954 [April 7, 1954], No. 23397/54. Class 83 (4). A metal-working die assembly comprises a die shoe 5 supporting a die ring 1 provided with a die cavity 7 and having an external surface 11 tapering inwardly away from the shoe, an annular sleeve 2 pressed on the die ring and having a tapered internal surface 12 complementary to the surface 11 and an external surface 13 tapering inwardly away from the shoe, a clamping ring 3 pressed on the sleeve and having a tapered internal surface 14 complementary to the surface 13, and adjustable clamping means such as bolts 6 between the clamping ring and the shoe, the sleeve and clamping ring being spaced from the shoe whereby they may be both pressed axially towards the shoe to inwardly precompress the die ring by a predetermined amount. A filler plate 4 is provided for the die ring. The die ring 1 and sleeve 2 are made of heat-treated die steel and the clamping ring of soft steel. The taper of the surfaces 11-14 is 1 degree.
