Abstract
863,363. Making hydraulic rams; drawing; extruding; forging. KABEL UND METALLWERKE NEUMEYER A.G. March 25, 1957, No. 9651/57. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). A hollow cylinder for an hydraulic pit prop or other hydraulic telescopic support is made by cold backwardly extruding a steel blank into cup shape 13, Fig. 3, cold-forwardly extruding the cup into a cylinder 14a. Fig. 4, and drawing the cylinder to desired dimensions through a draw plate 16, Fig. 5. The starting blank is a steel disc, Fig. 2 (not shown), having an external chamfer for centring purposes and coated with phosphate. This phosphate protects the cylinder from corrosion during service. The cylinder end is finally upset to its required shape in a die, Fig. 6 (not shown). The cylinders are used in particular to form the inner and outer props 1, 5, Fig. 1, of an hydraulic pit prop.
