Class 83 (4) A metal extrusion press has a platen c formed in at least two concentric parts c 1 , c 2 , of equal axial length, and the inner part c 1 transmits extrusion pressure to the outer part c 2 through a shoulder h, i which is further away from the the press axis X-X than the surface of contact between the inner part and the die b. The inner part c 1 which supports the die is made of high grade forged steel; the outer part c 2 , connected by nuts f, g to the tie rods e, is made of cast or forged steel. Tie rods e are connected at their opposite ends to the main press cylinder.
