Abstract

1337195 Drawing INSTYTUT METALURGII ZELAZA IM ST STASZICA 16 March 1971 7051/71 Heading B3P A tube 1 is drawn through two dies 3, 4 using a mandrel which causes the thickness as well as the diameter of the tube to be reduced at the second die 3 and which forms, between the inner tube wall at the first die 4 and a downstream portion 5 of the mandrel, a lubricant passage 6, 7 leading to a lubricant pressure chamber defined between the tube and a recess 14 in the mandrel. The mandrel includes a frusto-conical leading end 11, a cylindrical and frusto-conical working portion 2, a pressure recess 14, a downstream portion 5 of cylindrical, frusto-conical or cylindrical and frusto-conical form and a threaded portion 16 attachable to a mandrel rod. In other embodiments, the mandrel is provided with an additional recess (17) (Fig. 3, not shown) in the working portion 2 or grooves (18) (Fig. 4, not shown) in the downstream portion 5. The mandrel may be formed of components of different material secured together. A lubricant pressure sleeve 8 is secured to the first die 4.
