Drawing.-A process for shaping a tube comprises machining the exterior surface of the tube so that the wall thickness varies along its length and drawing the tube without a mandrel so that it has a cylindrical exterior surface and a varied wall thickness. A mild steel, seamed or seamless, tube, such as for a cycle &c. frame, of larger diameter than the finished tube is turned down to the shape shown in Fig. 2 and then cold drawn through a die to a constant outside diameter, so forming a longer tube having thickened end portions 4, Fig. 3. The tube may be formed with a tapered or double tapered bore.
