1278973 Making seamless tubes MANNESMANN AG 27 Oct 1969 [28 Oct 1968] 52459/69 Heading B3A A seamless tube with a good interior surface is produced by cold drawing a tube using a mandrel to reduce its diameter and wall thickness before the tube is subjected to rolling and subsequent cold drawing operations. A tube having an external diameter of 108 mm. and a wall thickness of 4 mm. is first cold drawn to an external diameter of 102 mm. and a wall thickness of 3À5 mm. The tube is next electrically heated to 950‹ C., optionally in a protective gas atmosphere, and rolled in 20 stages to an external diameter of 25 mm. and a wall thickness of 2À5 mm. The tube is finally cold drawn to an external diameter of 22 mm. and a wall thickness of 2 mm.
