Abstract

1,205,853. Making tubes. MANNESMANNMEER A.G. 28 June, 1968 [5 Dec., 1967], No. 31099/68. Heading B3A. A welded tube is worked to reduce its external diameter without reducing its wall thickness, after which the latter is reduced by at least 50%. Steel strip is formed into a welded tube and heated prior to passing it through a multi-stand mill to reduce its external diameter. The tube is thereafter induction heated in an inert gas atmosphere and worked in a plug or continuous mill to reduce its wall thickness. The tube may be cut into desired lengths.
