Abstract

1,198,536. Producing seamless pipes., MANNESMANN-MEER A.G. 12 March, 1968 [13 March, 1967], No. 11902/68. Heading B3A. Seamless pipes are formed from continuously cast square section strands by cutting the cast strand into blocks, which are successively heated, perforated, after rounding off their edges, and extruded to form thick-walled tubular blooms, which are in turn successively cut into predetermined lengths, heated and rolled using a mandrel to reduce their wall thickness, after which they are further heated and finally reduced in diameter by rolling to form the required diameter pipes. The edges of 800 kg. steel blocks are rounded by rollers and the perforated blocks extruded in an hydraulic press to form tubular blooms of 20 mm. wall thickness. The blooms are subdivided into three or four lengths which are rolled to produce pipes of 50-100 mm. diameter and 3.75 mm. wall thickness.
