Abstract
1,030,947. Billet piercing; extruding; making tubes. C. ZANINI . Oct, 7, 1964 [Oct. 8, 1963]. No. 40916/64. Headings B3A, B3H and B3P. A metal tube is made by extruding a billet 3 over a mandrel 1 shaped to produce a tube 8 having diminished wall thickness at both ends. The billet is preferably of steel and is first pierced by the mandrel 1 carried by an extrusion ram 4. Oil 7, Fig. 2 (not shown), is then introduced between the mandrel 1 and the pierced bore and the billet is extruded ,between the mandrel and die 6. The extruded tube is subsequently rolled to uniform wall thickness in a stretch reducing mill. A preferred relationship between various dimensions of the mandrel is given.
