Abstract

1,207,407. Extruding. CHESTERFIELD TUBE CO. Ltd. 17 July, 1969 [1 Aug., 1968], No. 36717/68. Heading B3P. A backward extrusion apparatus comprises a punch 10 with a nose 11 and supporting portion 12, a billet supporting assembly 14 with an aperture 16 to guide the portion 12 of the punch and a punch nose supporting ring 21 which is placed on top of the billet and moved along the punch nose by the extruded billet. The billet is supported in a recessed block 18 on an anvil 19. The punch is floatingly mounted on the ram 13. After extrusion the cupped shell produced is stripped from the punch by the part of the assembly 14 defining the aperture 16. The assembly has window 22 through which the billet, the block 18 and the ring 21 are inserted. The shell 23 produced can be shaped into a gas cylinder.
