Abstract
892,749. Forging; extruding. TEXTRON Inc. Nov. 18, 1959 [Dec. 15, 1958], No. 39073/59. Class 83 (4). In the manufacture of a sleeve-like article 87, a blank 37 is backwardly extruded around a fixed pin 29 within a die 25 and is ejected therefrom by a movable knock-out sleeve 31 encircling the pin 25. A blank cut from bar stock 13 by a knife 14 is transferred thereby to a station 1 where it is upset and indented within die 15 by punch 21 carried by a reciprocating gate 11. At station 2 the blank is backwardly extruded around pin 29 within spring-loaded die 25 by means of punch 36. Knock-out sleeve 31 is actuated by rods 33, 34, 35 to eject the cupshaped blank. At station 3 further backward extrusion around fixed pin 44 is effected within spring-loaded die 42 by means of punch 51 which has a cavity 54 for forming an enlarged diameter head 60. At station 4 the blank is indented at its outer end by punch 69 and at station 5, after reversing the blank, the web is punched out by punch 83.
