Abstract

1,160,137. Compression moulding. BRITISH CERAMIC RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. 1 Aug., 1967 [4 Aug., 1966], No. 34915/66. Heading B5A. In an apparatus for compression moulding ceramic dust, air is removed from between the dies during the compression stroke. A flexible bellows 15 surrounds the upper die 13 and cooperates with a die ring 12 which surrounds the lower die 11 to define a cavity 22 connected by flexible pipes 23 to a vacuum source so that as the dies close the air is removed from the cavity 22 via clearances 18, 18a, pockets 21 and holes 20. At the end of the compression stroke the vacuum is released to admit air at atmospheric pressure.
