Abstract

1291966 Spinning assembly AKZO NV 19 April 1971 [8 April 1970 (2)] 26371/71 Heading B5B The holder in a melt spinning assembly which comprises a spinneret plate 7, hood 8, lid 9 and polymer sealing means, e.g. ring 26, the parts being constructed to clamp into a sealing position under the melt pressure, is constructed as a pair of parallel side-plates 1, 2. As described, the plates have sloping surfaces 3, 5 and 4, 6, which engage corresponding surfaces 10, 11 and 12, 13 on the spinneret plate and lid in the manner of a dovetail joint. Plate 7 and the lid slide axially between plates 1, 2 and are forced into tight engagement therewith by the melt pressure. A sealing ring 26 e.g. of aluminium and of rectangular cross-section is placed round the circumference of polymer chamber 24 and is forced against the sides by the melt pressure; see Fig. 7. Chamber 24 is located between plate 7 and hood 8, the gap between them being filled by the deformed seal. Walls 35, 36 may be slightly inclined to assist sealing. Slight modifications are described, including one for bicomponent filaments.
