Abstract

1277631 Humidifying and transporting flock fibres. MASCHINENFABRIK RIETER AG 16 April 1969 [16 April 1968 27 Sept 1968 20 Nov 1968] 19382/69 Heading B1R [Also in Division D1] A process for pneumatically feeding one or more cards with flocks in which separated fibre flocks are delivered by means of a carrier air stream through a flock transporting duct to one or more feed chutes of the or each respective card and are deposited thereon, comprises, in dependence on the moisture content of the carrier air, introducing steam or a spray of water into a chamber communicating with the flock transporting duct and from which air laden with water vapour but containing no droplets of water is passed into the flock transporting duct. The moisture content of the carrier air is sensed by a humidity gauge arranged in the transporting duct and connected to a valve controlling the admission of steam or water to the chamber. The humidity gauge may be located down-stream from the chamber and the chamber may on the pressure or suction side of a fan drawing the air stream in the transporting duct. The chamber may be traversed by a part stream of the carrier air stream or by a flow of air from the surrounding atmosphere induced by an injector operated by steam admitted to the chamber. The chamber may be heated. The transporting duct may also be heated.
