Abstract

1,272,106. Desks, joints; cabinets. MASSEYFERGUSON INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 10, 1969 [June 12, 1968], No.29423/69. Headings A4B and A4H. A furniture construction comprises a pedestal 10, a desk top 44 having one end supported by a side 9 the pedestal clear of the top 44, and support means, e.g. a second pedestal 10, for the other end of the desk top 44, the pedestal 10 comprising a cabinet having two side walls 12, 14, a rear wall 16, slideable drawers 18, 20, and a hinged top cover 22, comprising hinged sections. A pair of drop mounting L-brackets 40 are secured at horizontally spaced positions to side wall 12 by screws 36 through their vertical legs, and their horizontal legs are received in slots in the lower side of a desk top 44. Flush mounting L-brackets 48 screwed to wall 14 have their horizontal legs received in slots formed by C-shaped members (46) Fig. 2 (not shown) embedded in a desk top 44. Enlarged portions 35a of the screw holes in walls 12, 14 receive the screw heads 36a when the screws are not used. Cover 22 comprises sections 24, 26 hinged together at 25, section 26 being hinged at 27 to a top frame 29. A spring or elastic over-centre member 28 biases cover 22 open. Frame 29 includes vertical and horizontal flanges 30, 31, a vertical flange 32 extending along side walls 12, 14 only, and a curved flange 33, Fig. 5 (not shown) extending along the front and rear only of frame 29 for receiving a guiding projection 34 on cover section 24. Drawer (18) may be fixed, its handle locking the cover 22. Specification 1, 272, 107 is referred to.
