A knockdown steel shelf unit, consisting of shelves 12 secured by T-nuts and fastening screws 16 to corner posts 10, is provided with offset sliding doors 202, 204 and side and back wall panels to form a cabinet. The shelves have depending side flanges 22 and box front and back flanges 24 the side wall panels 212 being slid into a space between the side flanges 22 and a trim flange 58 of the post 10 before tightening of the screws 16. A frame for the doors is formed by opposing upper and lower Z-shaped channel members 214 and side members 220 which are connected at each mitred corner by a bracket and a securing screw (Fig. 6, not shown). The channel members have hook parts 222, to engage the box flanges 24, and the side members have flanges 242 which are clamped between the box flanges and a flange 64 of the front corner posts. Plastic guide members 275 for the doors are adhered to the webs of the channel members 214 and the assembled frame, with or without the doors, is slipped edgewise, horizontally on to the supporting shelves before the last front post is assembled and the other front post is finally tightened. A back panel is supported by upper and lower Z-shaped channel members hooked over the rear box flanges and is slipped into position before the last rear post is assembled, the panel being clamped between the flanges 64 of the rear posts. The posts may extend above the top shelf to receive a table top, or multiple cabinet units can be built up from super-posed shelf units.
