Abstract
1,044,817. Cabinets. KUCHE UND HAUSTECHNIK G.m.b.H. Oct. 7, 1964 [Dec. 10, 1963], No. 40847/64. Headings A4B and A4H. A collapsible article of furniture, especially a kitchen cabinet, includes a rectanglar front frame and plate like walls 2, 3, the frame comprising channel section members such as 7, 8, having inwardly directed edges 13 which engage grooves 14 in the walls 2, 3, the width of the edges 13 being greater than the depth of the grooves 14. The embodiment of Fig. 1 includes doors 5, 6 hinged to side frame members 7, 8 which slidably receive side walls 2, 3 having longitudinal grooves 14, 15 engaging the side members 7, 8. An intermediate frame member 9 serves as a door abutment and slidably receives a grooved partition wall 4. Cabinets may be secured side-by-side (Fig. 5, not shown) or alternatively (Fig. 6, not shown) side walls or adjacent cabinets may be omitted, the cabinets being secured together by a tie bar 18 engaging adjacent side frame members 7, 8 and on intermediate wall 20 being optionally included. In an unpartitioned cabinet a single door abuts a side frame member 8 which may carry a rubber stop on which may include an integral, inwardly projecting abutment portion (Figs. 3, 4, not shown). The side frame members 7, 8 may be apertured 22 (Fig. 10, not shown) to accommodate door hinge arms 25 and a latch 29 which cooperates with a roller 31 carried by the door 24. Top 57, base 36 and rear 47 panels are provided (Fig. 12, not shown), the base 36 being supported on an angle member 41 secured to an extended horizontal support 40 and the rear panel 47 being received in a base groove 46 and in grooved side walls and is secured at its top to a strut 48 extending between anchored to the cabinet side walls. In another embodiment (Fig. 16, not shown) a working top 62 has a depending portion 63 engaging on upper, transverse frame member 33 and a base 36 is anchored to a lower frame member 34 by spring hooks 37. The frame members may be of metal or plastics.
