Abstract

1,222,221. Continuous casting machines. KAISER ALUMINUM & CHEMICAL CORP. 26 Aug., 1968 [30 Aug., 1967], No. 40759/68. Heading B3F. A mould for the continuous casting of hollow bodies comprises an orifice plate 10, a mould member 15 having a hollow portion 18, and a mandrel 16 having a cooling chamber 28. Molten metal is supplied to the space 13 through one or more openings 11 in the orifice plate 10. Cooling water is supplied to chamber 28 via pipe 25 and passageways 26 and 27 and is discharged from chamber 28 through slots 30 which direct the water against the interior surface of the article being cast. Water from the hollow portions 18 of the mould member 15 is discharged via slots 20 which direct it against the exterior of the article being cast. lubricant is introduced to the surface of the mandrel 16 via pipe 31 and passageways 32 and 33, and to the surface of the member 15 via pipe 21.
