Abstract

1,090,858. Continuous casting moulds. STEEL COMPANY OF WALES Ltd. Jan. 26, 1966 [Oct. 30, 1964], No. 44413/64. Heading B3F. A continuous casting mould comprises a thin-walled one-piece metal or refractory liner 11 to which is secured in abutting relationship side and end backing plates 12 and 13. Co-operating grooves 22 and 23, 24 in the liner and backing plates respectively facilitate the passage of coolant. The metal liner may be made of copper cast or fabricated to the required shape and the backing plates may be steel or iron. Alternatively the liner backing means may be formed as one unit by forging or casting. The coolant grooves may alternatively be positioned wholly in the liner or the backing plate.
