A carton erected from a blank having front, rear and end walls 1 ... 4, Fig. 1, and two cover flaps 5, 6, has the latter slightly overlapped at their adjoined edges, the uppermost flap, 6, being provided with flaps 13, 14 foldable downwards to engage cut-away portions 17, 18 in the end walls, Fig. 3. The cover flap 5 has a tongue 35 extending partly into a hand hole 7, the tongue underlying the edge of the upper cover flap 6 in the closed and erected carton; the cover flap 6 has extensions 27 which then overly the cover flap 5. Tongues 15, 16 in the flaps 13, 14 latch under the edges of the cutaway side wall portions 17, 18. The carton is formed from the blank of Fig. 1, by folding-up the walls 1 ... 4 to make a tray, and sticking front and rear wall extension flaps 9 ... 12 inside the end walls 3, 4. The cover flaps 5, 6 are then folded horizontally outwards, and the walls 1 . . . 4 pushed inwards, to lie flat on the base, Fig. 2 (not shown), the end walls 3, 4 folding along diagonal crease lines 25. The carton is erected from flat form by pulling out the side walls 1 ... 4 to form the tray, in which articles may be inserted, and the cover flaps 5, 6 closed, with handles bent upwardly. Printed matter may be applied to the blank in its initial form, for exposure on the outside of the erected carton.
