Abstract
1,197,132. Discharging static electricity. INDUSTRIAL ELECTRICAL CO. Ltd. 11 June, 1969 [17 June, 1968; 28 Feb., 1969], Nos. 28744/68 and 10755/69. Heading H1X. A static eliminator comprises a metal chamber 1 for receiving air under pressure and containing a needle electrode 11 or electrodes coupled to a cable 3 for supplying a high tension, the or each electrode being surrounded by a tube 7 of insulating material which extends at least as far as the external wall 2 of the chamber so that there is no direct discharge path between the electrode and the chamber wall, and said electrode being spaced from the wall of the tube which is provided with an air hole 14 or holes connecting the interior of the tube to the chamber 1 so that air is blown around the electrode under pressure. The cable 3 and its insulating sleeve 4 pass through a transverse hole 8 in each tube 7. which may be of P.T.F.E. A shoulder 9 on the tube 7 is urged by a spring 10 into a hole in the lid 2 of the chamber 1. The electrode 11 is capacitatively coupled to the cable 3 by a brass or other metal tube lining the hole 8 or alternatively by a metal coating on the insulating sleeve 4. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 2, not shown) the electrode is screwed through the insulating sleeve 4 to make direct contact with the cable 3.
