Abstract

1,247,502. Discharge apparatus. R.S.V. PRAZISIONSMESSGERATE G.m.b.H. 2 March, 1970 [1 March, 1969], No. 9916/70. Addition to 1,179,825. Heading H1D. A specimen holder 5 (Fig. 2) replaces the member 4 (Fig. 1), closing an aperture in a cathode body 3 into which projects a tubular portion 2 of an anode 1 of the glow discharge apparatus for spectral and/or absorption analysis described in the parent Specification, said holder 5 having at least one bore 7 therein for receiving a specimen to be analysed with a minimum clearance not greater than 0.15 mm. and consisting at least on the side facing the anode of a material 6, e.g. spectral carbon, which is electrically conductive, difficult to atomize and which is not to be analysed and has a substantially flat surface. The specimen, e.g. a wire or twisted wires, is secured in the bore 7 by a locking screw 8 so that the tip is level with the surface of the holder within a tolerance of + 2 to - 1 mm. A plurality of bores 7 may be provided within an area of diameter at least 0.5 mm. less than the diameter of the tubular portion 2 of the anode 1. Hermetic sealing rings 9 and 10 are provided.
