Abstract

967,047. Arc lamps. KLOCKNER-WERKE A.G. April 25, 1963 [April 27, 1962], No. 16311/63. Heading H1X. In a process for the quantitative spectrographic analysis of non-metallic materials in which the specimen is formed into a conductive block 4 using conductive additives forming one electrode of an arc or spark discharge in an inert gas (the other electrode being shown at 3), the specimen block 4 is so shaped and positioned that it closes the region 2 of the discharge, flushed by inert gas, from the external atmosphere during the spectroscopic examination. The block 4 may be held against the member 7 by a spring 6, and the discharge viewed in the spectrograph 8 through window 7. The method is particularly suitable for automatic operation.
