Abstract

1409309 Discharge apparatus SOC NATIONALE DES PETROLES D'AQUITAINE 28 Dec 1972 [29 Dec 1971] 59787/72 Heading H1D A gas-filled electron source for, e.g., an X-ray spectrometer comprises an insulated housing la, 1b containing a disc-shaped cathode 2 axially aligned with a foraminous anode 3 of, e.g., steel or nickel. The anode is earthed and the cathode connected to a source of high potential by a lead 8. The cathode is adjustable upon a threaded stem 6 and is associated with cooling fins 9. Gas may be introduced between the electrodes by a capillary tube 11. The telescopically-adjustable parts of the housing are sealed by an 0-ring 13. The part la may contain a control electrode 14 when in use, the tube is connected by a stem 19 to a cylindrical base 17 which fits the standard opening of a spectrometer. The axis of the tube, which is aligned on the target, lies at right angles to the axis of the base 17.
