708,580. Amplitude modulating apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. April 3, 1952 [April 6, 1951], No. 8529/52. Drawings to Specification. Class 40 (5) The ionization conditions of one or more gas discharge tubes in a waveguide amplitude modulates the waves and to avoid frequency modulating the source of the waves the tube or tubes or the plane of the ionized gas is inclined at an angle of not more than 30 degrees and not less than 5 degrees with the axis of the waveguide. The tube(s) may be elongated and mounted in opposite walls of the waveguide or wholly housed inside with the current supply wires passing through the walls.
