Abstract

884,949. Pipe joints. LANCASTER, F. Oct. 10, 1960 [Oct,. 10, 1959 ; May 20, 1960], Nos. 34428/59 and 17803/60. Class 99 (1). A sleeve 14 of hard material such as brass is secured on a lead pipe 12 by soldering and a union member 28 is adapted to enter the protruding end of the pipe so that when the sleeve 14 and the member 28 are drawn together, e.g. by a flanged nut 36, the protruding end of the pipe is deformed outwardly and clamped between the sleeve 14 and member 28. The ends of the sleeve 14 and member 28 are respectively convex and concave in crosssection. The internal surface of the sleeve 14 is partly tapered to fit over the tapered end of the pipe 12 and partly cylindrical to provide between the pipe and the sleeve a space 20 which is filled by solder fed through a hole 24. The member 28 has a cylindrical portion 42 which is engaged by a cylindrical bore of the nut for proper location of the latter. Specifications 740,717 and 884,950 are referred to.
