Abstract

913,262. Riveted joints; welding. ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO. Ltd. Dec. 6, 1960 [March 11, 1960], No. 8633/60. Class 83 (4). A method of fixing two parts 1, 2, together comprises forming a hole in one part 1 in such position that when the two parts are placed in the desired mutual relationship the other part is accessible through said hole, placing a metal pin 5 in said hole to reach through it to said other part 2, and then melting the pin to spot-weld it at one end to said other part and form a head on the other end to hold the two parts together. The melting or welding is effected by an electrode 6 which enters a larger diameter hole 4 in the part 1. In the embodiment described the part 1 is a ceramic button and the assembly is part of the electrode system of a discharge tube.
