Abstract

830,773. Electric fuzes. WASAGCHEMIE A. G. April 8, 1958 [April 4, 1957], No. 11107/58. Class 9(1) An electric fuze for igniting explosives comprises a cylindrical ceramic insulator 1 having a tapered axial bore 8 housing a tubular electrode 10 and surrounded by a cylindrical electrode 14 having inturned flanges 15, 17 at each end. A protuberance 1b which is preferably conical extends from one end face of the insulator and is covered with a metal layer 5 which extends over the annular ridge 6 and part way along the bore 8 to terminate at a line 7. The layer 5 may be thicker on the ridge 6 and within the bore than on the conical surface. One or more pointed contacts 16 extend from the flange 15, Fig. 2, over the layer 5. Preferably the contacts 16 are shaped as isosceles triangles joined by a rectangular portion to the flange 15 to facilitate bending. The electrode 10 has a taper corresponding to that of the bore 8, the taper of the bore being greater between the ridge 6 and a line 11 and after the section 11-12, the bore becomes cylindrical. A palladium-silver alloy may be used for the layer and the electrode 10 may be of silver. To prevent displacement of the electrode 10, a cylindrical locking sleeve may be secured to its exposed surface, e.g. by soldering or glue. Otherwise the electrode 10 may be secured to the end face 1c of the insulator by glue e.g. synthetic resin or by a tensioning ring. Specification 752,724 is referred to.
