Abstract

968,655. Welding by pressure. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. May 24, 1963 [May 24, 1962], No. 20952/63. Heading B3R. [Also in Division H1] A sleeve member having an inwardly extending recess in its outer wall is resistance welded to a base-plate to complete a cup-shaped housing for a semi-conductor device (see Division HI). The welding is effected by means of a first electrode that in operation is seated on a flange at the end of the recess in the sleeve wall (Fig. 5). The electrode is formed of two elongated halfrings 24 and 25 (Fig. 3) which are relatively movable and have one end clamped in a securing member 30 which is formed with a stem 32 having a cylindrical recess 31 into which the half-rings 24 and 25 fit. Current supply to the electrode is effected through a large diameter portion 30a. In order to ensure that the current flows through the flange of the housing and not through the side wall portion of the sleeve insulating half-rings 33 and 34 are provided on the electrode.
