Abstract

1,152,711. Electrode boilers. PARKINSON COWAN Ltd. 10 Feb., 1967 [11 Feb., 1966], No. 6239/66. Heading H5H. The electrode of an electrode boiler comprises a conducting tip 8 mounted upon an insulating bushing 1 projecting into the boiler, the tip being connected to an external terminal (24) by a conductor 3 passing through the bushing 1 and there being a circumferential recess 15 between the tip 8 and the bushing 1. This is stated to prevent damage to the porcelain bushing by small arcs developing on the outer surface of the tip 8. This tip 8 has channels through it, to allow the flow of water, being constructed as an inner cylinder 9 connected to an outer cylinder 13 by radial webs 12. The cylinder 9 is held on the conductor 3 between a nut 14 and a flange 4, the latter being housed in a recess 5 in the bushing and sealed to it by a gasket 6. The electrode assembly co-operates with a tapered insulating sleeve 17 which can be moved relative to the electrode to vary the cross-section and thus the resistance of the current path between the electrode 8 and a neutral sleeve (33), (Fig. 1, not shown).
