Abstract

1371123 Thermal switches MICRO DEVICES CORP 27 June 1972 [16 July 1971] 30116/72 Heading H1N A thermal cut-out is identical to the one described with reference to Figs. 1-5 of U.K. Specification 1,255,589, except that the identical reduced diameter end portions 36, 38 of the insulating plug 16 closing one end of the conductive casing 12 are at least as long as the enlarged diameter central portion 32. Because the plug 16 is symmetrical about a central axis transverse to its length probelms of incorrect orientation of the plug do not arise when it is automatically assembled in the casing 12. The greater axial length of end portion 36 ensures that the length of plug insulation between the casing end flange 44 and the exposed outer end of conductor 20 is greater than in U.K. Specification 1,255,589. As the overall length of the plug 16 is the same as that of the aforementioned U.K. Specification the length of the central portion 32 is reduced and hence the length of the counterbore 34 in casing 12 is reduced. Each end portion 36, 38 has two frusto-conical parts 35, 37 between which an annular seat 139 for biasing spring 54 is formed. In Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown) each end portion 36, 38 has a single smooth frustoconical surface.
