Abstract

1,022,617. Sheathed heating element. LICENTIA PATENT - VERWALTUNGS - G.m.b.H. Nov. 27, 1962 [Nov. 30; 1961], No. 44835/62. Heading H5H. An electrical heater comprising a heating element embedded in insulation in a metal tube has a terminal pin at one end which is sealed by a resilient insulating plug surrounding the pin, the plug having an internal cladding of material more rigid than the plug and providing an additional barrier of insulation between the pin and the external metal casing. As shown, a heating element 1, terminating in a terminal pin 4, is embedded in insulation 5 having good thermal conductivity in an inner metal tube 2 surrounded by insulation 6 having a high electrical breakdown strength to resist high voltage testing in an outer metal tube 3. The space between tubes 2 and 3 is sealed by a rubber plug 8 having an internal cladding 10 of mica to strengthen the resistance to high voltage testing at this region. Insulator 9 is on the outside of plug 8. In a heater comprising a single tube containing an element embedded in insulation, the cladding is round the terminal pin.
