Abstract
924,849. Semi-conductor devices. BROWN, BOVERI & CO. Ltd. Sept. 18, 1961 [Sept. 20, 1960], No. 33343/61. Class 37. The casing for a controlled semi-conductor rectifier has a hollow terminal bolt in which a tube is located and has a lead from an electrode of the rectifier passing through the tube in electrically insulated manner to a rod which is held by an insulator fused to the rod and to a widened outer end of the tube to form a seal. In the embodiment described the copper bolt 1, connected by a stranded copper conductor 3 to one electrode of the rectifier, contains a tube 4, e.g. of " Kovar " (" Kovar " is a Registered Trade Mark), which serves for evacuating the casing and also, if desired, for filling it with an inert gas. Through this tube, which contains an inner insulating tube 7, passes a lead 6 from the rectifier's control electrode to a terminal rod 5 which is by an insulator 8, sealed e.g. by using high-frequency heating, to the widened end 4a of tube 4. After the remaining hollow part of bolt 1 has been filled with an insulating material such as a synthetic resin, the combination of bolt 1 and rod 5 serves as a plug for making two of the connections to the rectifier, the third connection being made to the lower part of the casing which is insulated from the upper part by an annular glass seal.
