Abstract

903,852. Holders for thermionic valves. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Aug. 13, 1959, No. 27677/59. Class 38 (1). A test socket for flying lead valves comprises an adapter member 1, e.g. of P.T.F.E., having a body portion 4 formed with longitudinal flutes 5 each having spring contacts 9 for reception of a respective valve lead, and an annular insulating socket member 2 having radial internally projecting contact rods 12, each of which enters a respective fluting so that when a major portion of the length of the adapter body is passed through the socket member the contact rods 12 compress the spring contacts 9 to grip the valve leads adjacent the valve base. The adapter 1 is formed with an insulating cupshaped head 3 which provides a seating for the base of a valve 8 and which is apertured as at 7 for the passage of each valve lead. The socket 2 comprises a ring 11 having seatings for the contact rods 12 and a further ring 14 secured to the ring 11 over the rods. A switch (not shown) may be associated with the test socket to ensure that the contact rods are not live when the adapter member has been withdrawn from the socket member.
