Abstract

1,182,228. Regulating; dual fuel engines. SEA BIRD (CLEAN AIR FUEL SYSTEMS) Ltd. Aug.21, 1968, No.39989/68. Heading F1B. In a dual fuel compression ignition engine, a valve 5 on the end of a liquid fuel injection pump control rod 3 controls the supply of gaseous fuel (or petrol) either directly or indirectly, the supply of gaseous fuel increasing as the supply of liquid fuel increases. In Fig. 1 gaseous fuel is fed through pipe 8 to a chamber 7a connected by pipe 9 to a Venturi in the air induction system and the valve 5 varies the suction in the chamber 7a, and hence the gaseous fuel supply, by controlling the admission of air from ports 10 into the chamber 7a. As the control rod 3 moves to the left to increase the liquid fuel supply from the injection pump, valve 5 closes an orifice in a plate 11 to increase the suction in chamber 7a and thereby increase the gaseous fuel supply. Plate 11 is free to move laterally so as to be self-centering. In Fig.5 the valve 56 on the pump control rod directly controls the supply of gaseous fuel flowing from pipe 60 to the pipe 50 leading to the induction system.
