Abstract
1,190,919. Fuel injection systems. C A V. Ltd. Oct.26, 1967 [Nov.11, 1966], No.50655/66. Heading F1B. A piston 13 between a fuel pump 8 and injector 9 is moved downwards by fuel passing through a flow control valve 18, whereby firstly fuel for pilot injection is forced through pipe 12 to the injector 9 and secondly a by-pass 24 is opened for the main injection. The valve 18 has a restriction 21 therein and its end controls an orifice 17 forming a variable restriction to the flow to the piston 13. The fuel for the main injection may either pass through an orifice 15 in piston 13 or through a separate passage 30 opened after the by-pass 24 opens, which passage 30 may be formed in the piston 13. In Fig.2 a plate valve 26 prevents flow through the orifice 15 during the pilot injection period.
