Abstract
1,170,914. Anodizing aluminium. VEREINIGTE ALUMINIUM - WERKE A. G. July 23, 1968 [Aug. 1, 1967], No.35173/68. Heading C7B. An electrolyte used in producing a coloured oxide coating on aluminium metal or alloy is regenerated by adding thereto an alkali metal fluorine compound, e.g. sodium or potassium (hydrogen) fluoride, to precipitate the aluminium dissolved. Typical self-colouring electrolytes consist of H 2 SO 4 and an organic acid such as sulphosalicylic, sulphophthalic, tartaric or maleic acid. To keep the Al content constant between 0À3 and 1 g/ 1 of a bath containing 20% maleic acid and 0À4% H 2 SO 4 , 30% of the bath is removed and treated with 6 g/1 of NaHF 2 in an auxiliary vessel, and after allowing the precipitate to settle returned to the bath.
