Abstract

1,169,587. Solid fuel fireplace. BIBBY FIRES Ltd. 24 Jan., 1968 [31 Jan., 1967], No. 4607/67. Heading F4W. Primary air supplied below the grate of a solid fuel fireplace is preheated in a chamber 24 below or projecting a little above the floor of the fireplace. A two-speed fan 48 mounted in a recess 41 in the chimney breast supplies air to the chamber 24 through a flexible tube 39 and a backward extension 37 of the chamber 24 having an inlet at either side, one of which may be blanked off. The air, heated by the ashes in an ashpan resting on the floor of the fireplace and in the chamber 24, passes up an air box 33 in the cheeks of the fireplace, and down over a curved baffle plate 32 to an outlet below the grate 17. The baffle plate 32 prevents ash from the ash pan falling into the preheater chamber 24. The fan 42 may be detachably mounted in the recess 41 by engagement with an adapter fixed to the end of the flexible tube 39.
