Abstract

1,131,193. Compartmented containers; stoppers &c. G. SCHWARTZMAN. 8 Feb., 1967 [31 Aug., 1966], No. 5926/67. Headings B8D and B8T. An applicator nozzle 26 is formed with an intregral stem 32 for piercing a membrane 38 which separates a material B, e.g. a powder, from the contents A, e.g. a liquid, in a container to which the nozzle is applied. The nozzle may be compressed, due to its outwardly resilient bellows formations 24, to actuate the stem 32 and is held on the container neck by a snapfitted skirt 18. The membrane 38 may be of plastics sheet spin-welded or bonded to the lower end of an internal sleeve 14. A ring of holes 28 is sealed by a removable cap 150. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown) the stem (132) is integral with the frusto-conical part of the nozzle and the holes (128) sealed by a removable strip. The membrane has a grooved portion (140). The nozzle skirt may be screw-threaded to the container neck, Fig. 7 (not shown); and the material B may be contained in a cup-like member (338) frictionally held within a sleeve portion of the nozzle, Fig. 9 (not shown). When the stem (332) is depressed the member (338) is released to mix the materials A and B.
