Abstract

1,061,810. Stoppers. ALLEN & HANBURYS Ltd. Nov. 30, 1965 [Dec. 22, 1964], No. 52115/64. Heading B8T. A resilient plug stopper, e.g. of rubber, for a bottle, has passages 5, 6 extending through it which are closed by pierceable protuberances 16, 17 extending from a protective cap 13 of inert material, e.g. polypropylene, which covers the internal surfaces of the stopper. Enlargements 19, 20 of the protuberances engage recesses 8, 9 of the passages. The outside of the stopper may have a cover such as a rubber diaphragm held in place by a tear off cap. When the cover is removed the sealed ends of the protuberances are broken, e.g. by a hollow needle, whereupon the passage 5 receives a tube for delivering the bottle contents. An air inlet tube depends from the passage 6 to near the container bottom. A third passage is provided extending upwardly through the stopper to near its top, and also receives a cap protuberance which may be pierced by a hollow needle for the introduction of further liquid into the bottle. In a modification the protuberances do not include enlargements, and one protuberance has a concave end surface to ensure that a needle inserted through its passage will pierce the end centrally.
