Abstract
1,104,805. Reciprocating pumps. D. H. SAUNDERS and J. M. KENNEDY. April 26, 1965 [May 14, 1964], No. 17451/65. Heading F1A. A pump, e.g. for grease, comprises a piston 54 moved on its delivery stroke by solenoids 8, 10, energized by battery or mains, and on its suction stroke by a spring 44 and a buffer spring 52 acting on a weight 38 which couples piston 54 to armature rod 34 through shock-absorbing material 40. A buffer spring 50 assisting the delivery stroke. Energization of solenoids 8, 10 is controlled by a switch 80 actuated at the end of each stroke, and by a control switch on a delivery nozzle. Switch 80 may be by-passed. A thermal switch may be used to control reciprocation and prevent overloading. Output pressure may be controlled by an adjustable pressuresensitive switch. The solenoid assembly is axially adjustable by bolts 18 to vary the piston stroke. Piston 54 draws in grease via inlet port 58 and delivers via a check valve 61. In other embodiments, one solenoid is used, Fig. 8 (not shown), weights are mounted above the armature, Fig. 10 (not shown), and the assembly is mounted on a hand gun barrel with a spring-loaded follower piston Fig. 9 (not shown). A signal light may be included in the solenoid circuit.
