Abstract

1,156,320. Reciprocating pumps. SKYHI Ltd. Jan. 6, 1967 [Dec. 1, 1965], No.50960/65. Heading F1A. A bucket pump can deliver relatively large and relatively small volumes of liquid to an outlet 36 on alternate piston strokes from a chamber 30 between the piston head and the inlet valve 32 and an annular chamber 18 between the piston 12 and the cylinder 10, repsectively. The chamber 30 is provided with a by-pass passage 42 to the liquid supply reservoir and a spring-loaded valve 46 in the by-pass is arranged to be opened when the pressure downstream of the delivery valve 40 exceeds a predetermined value. The piston 12 is reciprocated by a double-acting air motor M and liquid is delivered to the outlet 36 on each stroke of the piston until the by-pass valve 46 is opened by a rod 54 which is subjected to the delivery pressure through passage 56. When the bypass valve 46 is open the pump delivers relatively small volumes of liquid on alternate piston strokes at a pressure above the predetermined pressure.
