Abstract

110,182. Lanchester, F. W. Oct. 9, 1916. Regulating; valve-gear.-The liquid fuel injection valve of a Diesel engine is opened by the impact of a small plunger. The valve A<1> as shown opens into the cylinder; it is held closed by the pressure of the fuel upon its stem A<3> and if necessary by a spring A<5> -and its lift is limited by the butt A<4> which receives the impact of a freely moving plunger C<1>. The plunger is moved to open the valve by air pressure, and its stroke is limited by an adjustable stop D<3>. The pressure and time of admitting the air may be adjusted.
