Abstract

108,390. Redrup, C. B. Sept. 25, 1916. Regulating; valve-gear.-In a four-stroke-cycle engine, to ensure adequate charging an additional air charge is admitted to the cylinder at the end of the suction stroke, either through the exhaust valve or through an auxiliary valve. In the arrangement shown in the Figure, the exhaust valve, (not shown), is actuated normally by a cam b and is opened at the end of the suction stroke, to admit air, by an auxiliary cam c which engages a tappet rod d connected to a tappet f engaging the valve stem a. The auxiliary cam is adjusted axially by a cam g which may be actuated by hand. The supply of combustible mixture may be controlled simultaneously with the air supply by connecting the throttle valve o in the outlet pipe of the carburettor to the mechanism for adjusting the auxiliary cam c.
