Abstract

1,071,054. Outboard propulsion units. BRITISH ANZANI ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. May 1, 1964 [May 1, 1963], No. 17064/63. Heading B7V. [Also in Division F1] The impeller housing of an outboard motor having an engine secured to the top of the impeller housing (10), an impeller shaft (24) driven by the engine and disposed in a shaft passage (19) extending downwardly through the housing, and an impeller (25) in a chamber (12) having a downwardly opening water inlet orifice (13) and a rearwardly opening water outlet orifice (16) whereby water may be drawn upwards into the chamber and expelled rearwardly therefrom by the impeller to propel a water-borne craft, has an exhaust duct (22) which extends from the shaft passage (19) to an exhaust outlet (23) whereby exhaust gases from the engine may be discharged through the shaft passage and below the surface of the water in which the craft is propelled. Cooling water is supplied to the engine via a conduit (30) and returned from the engine through a duct (31) and thence to the exhaust outlet (23).
