Abstract

877,982. Jet propulsion outboard motors. MECCANICA GARELLI S.p.A. Jan. 22, 1960 [Jan. 23, 1959(3); Nov. 26, 1959], No. 2503/60. Class 114. [Also in Group XXVI] An outboard jet propulsion unit comprises an I.C. engine 10 which drives, via the shaft 14, an impeller 30 of a centrifugal pump having an inlet 36 and outlets 31<SP>1</SP> and 31<SP>11</SP>. The shaft 14 is arranged within a column 15 which is secured to the engine and underwater shrouds 11, 20 and 21 and is rotatable in the support 16. The column 15 serves as an exhaust conduit for the I.C. engine, connecting at its lower end with the chamber 23 and outlet 24. A tube 55 is arranged within the column 15 to form a clearance 40 which is open at the top to the interior of the column 15 and connected at the bottom with the pump casing 13 via a conduit 43, so that in operation the clearance 40 acts as a cooling jacket for the support 16.
